Welcome to New England Medicare Local
Looking to the future
New England Medicare Local Board commits to doing all it can to become part of a Primary Health Network.
New England Medicare Local assists people around the New England North West area of NSW to access the health care services they need at the right time, and in the right locations.
We are a not-for-profit, public company, that aims to create “Healthier people and communities”
by helping to coordinate primary health care delivery, and tackling local health care needs and service gaps to “Keep people well and out of hospital”
Our service region includes towns such as: Tamworth; Kootingal; Nundle Quirindi; Walcha and Werris Creek in the south, Armidale; Bundarra; Deepwater; Glen Innes; Tenterfield; Emmaville; Ashford Tingha and Guyra, to the north, and Barraba, Boggabilla, Boggabri, Bingara, Gunnedah, Manilla, Moree, Mungindi, Narrabri, Warialda and Wee Waa in the west. It is estimated more than 187,000 people live in these regions.
New England Medicare Local provides assistance to Health Professionals in a number of different ways.
These include: Continued Professional Development events and support; recruitment assistance and opportunities; access to shared resources; the provision of Provider Support Officers for General Practice and Allied Health professionals and access to services provide by NEML.
We also work alongside General Practices and Practitioners, the NSW Rural Doctors Network and Hunter New England Health to bring additional medical practitioners, nurses and allied health practitioners to the region.
Although NEML is not an employer of medical practitioners it supports those who do as well as other health practitioners that relocate to the region.
Recent examples include: recruitment of a paediatrician, urologist and anaesthetist; all of the specialist and technical positions at the North West Cancer Centre located in Tamworth and GPs in Narrabri, Guyra, Quirindi and Inverell.
The New England Medicare Local region covers an area of 93,000 square kilometres and has a total population of 174,194, nine per cent of which are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
New England Medicare Local directly employ 130 people in 11 different communities; and contracts another 70.
Our organisation contributes $16million to the regional economy through salaries, purchase of goods and services, leasehold agreements, etc.
